The objective of this course is to provide learners the skillset to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the various forms of horizontal surfaces in a safe manner.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand Workplace Safety and Health requirement when carry out cleaning operation
- Identify the unsafe acts or conditions present in the work environment
- Identify the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use when cleaning of hard floor surfaces
- Identify and prepare the correct tools to use for cleaning of hard floor surfaces
Learners are assumed to have:
- Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 1 and above.
- Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace Numeracy level 1 and above.
- 15 hours of classroom and practical training. (Not needed for AOP)
- 1 hour of assessment including written, oral, and practical assessment.
This unit covers the following knowledge items:
- Dust, debris, soilage and spillage removal methods on hard floor surfaces and carpets
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for cleaning different types of flooring and carpets
- Organisational procedures relating to cleaning the hard floors and carpets
- Different types of safety signages
- Types and characteristics of the different tiles and finishings on the hard floors
- Characteristics of carpets
- Types of receptacles and/or racks and their uses
- Types of tools, equipment and supplies to perform cleaning of hard flooring and carpets
- Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulation 39
- General Cleaner, Rest Room Cleaner, Healthcare Cleaner, Dishwasher, Refuse Cleaner and Refuse Collector.
- Workers who need to identify his responsibilities under the WSH Act and to acquire basic skill sets such as hazard identification and adhering to organisation risk control procedures in the Environmental Cleaning Sector.
