The objective of this course is to provide learners the skillset to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of washroom facilities in a safe manner.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the characteristics of toilet floors, fixtures, and fittings when performing maintenance for washrooms
- Recognise and handles the type of special chemical to perform de-scaling methods to urinals and toilet bowls
- Perform advanced toilet floor cleaning using single disc floor scrubber
- Interpret the information of the chemical written in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Render first aid to remove corrosive chemical in the event it got contacted with the skin during cleaning of washroom facilities
Learners are assumed to have:
- Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 1 and above.
- Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace Numeracy level 1 and above.
- 18 hours of classroom and practical training.
- 2 hours of assessment including written, oral, and practical assessment.
This unit covers the following knowledge items:
- Methods to remove stubborn stains in washroom facilities
- Periodic maintenance or checks of washroom facilities
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to remove stubborn stains, especially with use of corrosive and/or odour chemicals
- Organisational procedures relating to the use of special and/or corrosive detergent to remove stubborn stains
- Types of safety signages
- Types and proper uses of cleaning tools, equipment and supplies
- Types of special cleaning chemicals and their colour coding for cleaning washroom facilities
- Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act
- Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulation 39
- General Cleaner, Rest Room Cleaner, Healthcare Cleaner, Dishwasher, Refuse Cleaner and Refuse Collector.
- Workers who need to identify his responsibilities under the WSH Act and to acquire basic skill sets such as hazard identification and adhering to organisation risk control procedures in the Environmental Cleaning Sector.
