The objective of this course is to provide learners the knowledge to apply the correct use of cleaning chemicals by identifying its purpose and assessing the risks involved in its usage.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Interpret safety data sheet of the cleaning chemical
- Assess and understand the use of the cleaning chemical
- Identify the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use when handling of special cleaning chemical
Learners are assumed to have:
- Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 1 and above.
- Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace Numeracy level 1 and above.
- 12 hours of classroom and practical training.
- 1 hour of assessment including written, oral, and practical assessment.
This unit covers the following knowledge items:
- Relevant regulatory requirements for handling cleaning chemicals
- Common chemical safety and hazard symbols and their meaning
- Effects of cleaning chemicals on various surfaces
- Types and uses of cleaning chemicals
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management
- Organisational procedures relating to preparation of cleaning chemicals
- Employees currently in a supervisory or team leader roles with the technical skills and knowledge to supervise cleaning operations and cleaning operators.
- The working adults or mid-career change workers who are keen to join the environmental services industry.
